Handling
While not generally classified as hazardous materials, ion exchange resins, in H+ form cations and OH- form anions can be irritating to the eyes. Resins should, therefore, be handled carefully during storage, handling, and operation.

In case of a resin spill, care should be taken to clean up the spill as quickly as possible because the small beads are very slippery, particularly when dry.

A major hazard can occur when ion exchange resins make contact with strong oxidizing agents such as nitric acid, hydrogen peroxide and chromic acid. Such contact may result in anything from slight resin degradation to a violent exothermic reaction (explosion). Before using strong oxidizing agents, consult sources knowledgeable in handling such materials.

As part of our product stewardship policy, detailed information on the composition, properties, safe handling, and disposal for every DOWEX resin is available on the Safety Data Sheets.
