Proper resin selection is critical to safe, efficient water production in nuclear applications. Compatibility between the resin selected and the water quality must be carefully considered to avoid corrosion induced cracking, thus impacting plant safety. Proper resin selection can also minimize the build up of corrosion products, which lead to increases in radioactive contamination of reactor systems and subsequent maintenance problems.

Water quality control, along with material selection, is essential in keeping nuclear power plants in good running condition. In order to control water chemistry in all operating conditions, ion exchange resins play a dominant role.
